Skate Boarder Struck by Car

Garland, Texas - January 30, 3008 -- Garland Police responded to a child hit by a car last night in the 4700 block of Rosehill Road just after 6:30 pm.  The Traffic Officer’s investigation shows the 12 year old male was riding his skate board south bound in the north bound lane of traffic in the 4700 block of Rosehill.  A 1995 Ford Escort, driven by 18 year old Alicia Alvarado, was traveling north on Rosehill.  Investigators believe the Ford Escort began to move over to avoid hitting the 12 year on his skate board when he also moved over in the same direction and collided with the car.  He was taken to Baylor Hospital of Dallas where he remains today and is listed in critical condition.  The cause of the boy being struck was by him riding into oncoming traffic.  The driver however was charged with Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility and a Drivers License Restriction Code violation.
