The Crimes Against Persons Unit, commonly referred to as “CAPERS,” is an investigative unit specializing in crimes committed against individuals.  These crimes include such offenses as Assault, Aggravated Assault, Harassment, Kidnapping, Murder, Suicide, Suspicious Death Investigations, Unattended Death Investigations, Police Use of Deadly Force, Cruelty to Animals, and a host of other crimes.  The investigators assigned to this unit conduct approximately 180 death investigations each year, as well as approximately 250 aggravated assault investigations.  In addition, one investigator is assigned all adult robbery investigations, which accounts for approximately 250 offenses each year.  This unit responds to scenes of major incidents involving death on a 24 hour per day, 365 days per year basis.  Anonymous information can be reported to the CAPERS Unit by calling 972-205-2040.
