Garland, TX - March 7, 2008 -- Garland Police will have additional officers patrolling Garland streets for drunk drivers for the next two weeks. The timing of the extra patrols coincides with area school’s Spring Break season and will start tonight, March 7th and run through Sunday March 16th.
The additional patrols are funded by the Impaired Driver Mobilization Grant that is sponsored by TXDOT. The grant’s aim is enforcing DWI laws for all drivers with a special emphasis on Driving Under the Influence by Minors.
So far for 2008 Garland Police have made 70 arrests for D.W.I. Eight of those arrests have been for Driving Under the Influence by a Minor.
In Texas someone is hurt or killed in an alcohol related crash every 19 minutes and drunk-driving claims 5 lives every day. This year Garland has had three fatality crashes with the most resent one being alcohol related.
