On March 29, 2008 just after 6:30 p.m. Garland Police and Paramedics responded to a baby not breathing in the 1000 block of Alamo Drive. The baby, 2 month old Lanah Santiago-Sanchez, was transported to Baylor Hospital of Garland where she later died. As officers did their report they began to have questions as to whether Lanah stopped breathing on her own or that there may have been some outside cause for why she had stopped breathing. Detectives were called in to investigate. They learned that the father, 20 year old Eloy Sanchez, Jr., was the last one with Lanah and as they talked with him his story began to change as to what had happened but did not admit to any wrong doing. Lanah’s body was transferred to the Dallas County Medical Examiner for an autopsy. In late June, 2008 detectives received the Medical Examiner’s official report, ruling Lanah Santiago-Sanchez’s death; “homicide – violence including blunt force injury”. On June 26, 2008 detectives obtained a Capital Murder warrant for Lanah’s father, Eloy Bruce Sanchez, Jr. and took him into custody the next day. Bond was set at $1,000,000. A detective interviewed Sanchez after his arrest and he admitted to becoming frustrated on March 29th with Lanah’s crying. He admitted to shaking her before placing her down for a nap. It was soon after that when Lanah stopped breathing and later died. Eloy Bruce Sanchez Jr is currently in the Dallas County Jail, charged with Capital Murder – Person Under 6 years of age. Bond is set at $1,000,000.
