Shortly after midnight on July 22, 2007, Garland Police were called to the A&M Food Store located in the 300 block of South Barnes. When police arrived, they found the 46 year-old store owner holding down a 16 year-old male who had a gun in his hand. The 16 year-old was taken into custody and the store owner, who had been shot, told police the 16 year-old came into the store, pulled a gun, demanded money and then shot him. The owner rushed the 16 year-old, took him to the ground and held him until police arrived.
The store owner was transported to Parkland Hospital of Dallas where he underwent surgery for his wound and is expect to survive.
The 16 year-old has been taken to DCJD, Dallas County Juvenile Detention, where he is being held for Aggravated Robbery.
