The Telecommunications Department provides the support necessary to meet the radio and telephone needs of City staff. This department maintains the switches, installs and maintains telephones, and monitors the use of City telephone systems. Also involved in this area is the wiring of City buildings for telephone service.

The Telecommunications Department also installs and supports the City's radio systems.  These units are installed in many city vehicles and provide an important safety link to the various headquarters locations. Service providers also use numerous handheld units to facilitate the delivery of service to the citizens of Garland.
