Email the Mayor 972-205-2400 Ronald E. Jones, Mayor, was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He earned his Baccalaureate Degree from Dallas Baptist University, and a Master of Science Degree in Human Relations and Business Management from Abilene Christian University. Ronald Jones was elected Mayor of Garland on June 16, 2007, in a runoff election. After his retirement in May 2005, he served as Management Consultant to the City Manager and helped setup a Relief Center for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Jones also served as parliamentarian to the Mayor and City Council prior to his announcement to run for the Office of Mayor. Mayor Jones was the Assistant City Manager for the City of Garland for five and one-half years of the 29 years that he served in city government. He had cumulative oversight of over 14 departments during his tenure with the City. He is a graduate of the first Leadership Garland Class. He served as an adjunct professor of business for 10 years at El Centro College in Dallas. Mayor Jones currently serves as Associate Pastor at New Hope Baptist Church. He is also a certified mediator, a certified temperament counselor, and a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians. As a Professional Clinical Member of the National Christian Counselors Association, he leads the counseling ministry at his church. Mayor Jones’ civic involvement includes the Kiwanis Club of Garland (past president); Board member of Garland Civic Theater and The Achievement Center; past Board member of New Beginnings Center; member of Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, Garland Asian American Task Force; and Life member of PTA and NAACP. Mayor Jones is in demand as a speaker and trainer. He is also a gifted artist, a devoted husband (married 40 years), an honorable father of two sons, one of which is an attorney, and the second son is a licensed minister and former NFL football player. He has two lovely daughters-in-law and six adorable granddaughters.
